The Fire
Department does not service fire
extinguishers. An E license issued by the
California State Fire Marshal is required to
service fire extinguishers. Licensed fire
extinguisher contractors can be located in
the Yellow Pages under “Fire Extinguishers”.
A multi
purpose fire extinguisher is the best choice
for your home. When buying an extinguisher
you should make sure the minimum rating is a
2A:10BC. This type of fire extinguisher can
be used on most types of home fires. Fire
extinguishers should be located in easily
accessible locations in your home.
In most
cases the smoke alarm is chirping to tell
you that the batteries in the smoke alarm
are low and need to be changed. Batteries
should be checked monthly and replaced every
six months.
Smoke
alarms should be installed inside every
bedroom, in hallways outside bedrooms and
one on every level of your home. They should
be installed on ceilings or high on walls,
with the top of the alarm no closer than
four inches from the ceiling.
Your
local water district is in charge of the
maintenance of public fire hydrants. Please
contact the water district for any concerns
in regards to public fire hydrants.
